5 Ways To Fight Depression

Posted by Micah J on on Mar 19th 2023

Depression is a common mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It can lead to feelings of sadness, loss of interest, and hopelessness. Although there is no one-size-fits-all approach to treating depression, there are several strategies that can help manage the symptoms. In this article, we’ll explore five ways to fight depression, including the use of CBD oil.

1 - Exercise regularly

Exercise has been shown to be an effective way to manage depression. Physical activity releases endorphins, which are natural feel-good chemicals that can boost mood and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. Regular exercise can also help improve sleep quality, increase energy levels, and improve overall physical health. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, such as brisk walking or cycling, on most days of the week.

I have found that even having the goal of going outside for a 5-minute walk can not only help, but usually turns into a longer walk anyway.

2 - Practice relaxation techniques

Relaxation techniques, such as meditation, deep breathing, and progressive muscle relaxation, can help reduce stress and anxiety, which are often associated with depression. These techniques can also help improve sleep quality and promote feelings of calm and relaxation. Consider incorporating relaxation techniques into your daily routine, such as before bed or during lunch breaks.

One simple breathing technique is called Box-breathing. Inhale for a count of four, hold for a count of four, exhale for a count of four and hold for a count of four.

3 -Get enough sleep

Sleep plays a crucial role in mental and physical health. Lack of sleep can worsen depression symptoms and lead to feelings of irritability and fatigue. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night and try to establish a regular sleep routine. Avoid caffeine and alcohol before bed and create a comfortable sleep environment by keeping the bedroom dark, quiet, and cool.

Stay off your phone in bed. Either leave it in another room or across your room.

4 - Seek professional help

Depression can be a complex and challenging condition to manage. If you are struggling with depression, it is essential to seek professional help. A mental health professional can provide support, guidance, and treatment options, such as therapy and medication. They can also help you develop coping strategies and make lifestyle changes to manage symptoms.

Sometimes just the act of talking to someone and being heard can help tremendously.  A professional can help with giving you some tactics and not just tell you that 'things will get better' or 'get over it' like some friends may do.

5 - Use CBD oil

CBD oil is a natural supplement that has gained popularity for its potential therapeutic effects on mental health conditions, including depression. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. It has been shown to have anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory properties as well, which can also help manage symptoms of depression.

Research suggests that CBD oil may help regulate the body's endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in mood regulation. CBD oil may also increase levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood, sleep, and appetite.

(This is what I use everyday and has truly saved my life) (If you are considering using CBD oil to manage depression, it is essential to speak with a healthcare provider first. They can provide guidance on dosing, potential side effects, and interactions with other medications.)

In conclusion, depression can be a challenging condition to manage, but there are several strategies that can help. By incorporating exercise, relaxation techniques, sleep, seeking professional help, and using CBD oil, you can take steps to manage symptoms and improve your overall mental and physical health. Remember to speak with a healthcare provider before making any changes to your treatment plan.
